Pantone Colour of the Year 2018: PANTONE Ultra Violet

Ultra Violet Pantone Colour of the Year
Pantone Ultra Violet is the colour of the year 2018. Offering a mystical or spiritual quality, it is a galaxy away from 2017’s Colour of the Year, Greenery. Ultra Violet represents mindfulness and a refuge from today’s over stimulated world but it also offers hope, bringing together two shades, blue and red, that are diametrically opposed to create something new.

We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”

Ultra Violet symbolises experimentation and non conformity. Cultural icons such as Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix are synonymous with this shade pushing personal expression and influencing others to make their own unique mark on the world. An inspiring, other worldly colour that points us towards the stars. We can expect to see Ultra Violet make an appearance in fashion, beauty and home decor as the colour to stand out with.

Purple reign

For the first time, Pantone will release limited-edition collections of Pantone Color of the Year 2018 Formula Guides and Fashion, Home + Interiors Color Guides as collector’s items for designers. This will allow designers to incorporate Ultra Violet into their workflow easily. Pantone have also partnered with Saatchi Art the leading art gallery to create a collection of prints using the Ultra Violet shade. Created by a series of international designers and artists, this collection will allow art lovers to experience Ultra Violet on a daily basis. We find the Pantone Colour of the Year to be an inspired choice for 2018 and can’t wait to see what people achieve with this colour.
