How long have you been working at YPS?
I have been with YPS since its beginning in 2009! I had known our Director, Garry Brown, from working within the print industry previously.
How did you get into the print industry?
In my early twenties, I was working as a crop sprayer, however only working in the summer made the winter very long. My colleague at the time and I started working at House of Mayfair stretching where I screen-printed wallpaper, while colour matching. I can remember one wallpaper, in particular, that was difficult to match, Tom and Jerry wallpaper!
Before working for YPS I spent a further 15 years at Coates Screen and Sun Chemicals after House of Mayfair.
What do you do in your role?
I am YPS’ screen printing specialist, from re-meshing and stretching our customer's screens to colour matching and mixing their inks. So, if you have any questions regarding screen printing, colour matching and ink mixes, ask for me!
What is your take on digital printing vs. screen printing?
Personally, I don't think digital print has yet to overtake screen, I think screen printing took a dip in the 90’s recession, and then digital appealed to the new market of printers.
Digital and screen are two completely different forms of print, both with their own benefits.
In today's market customers take interest in eco-friendly inks and personalisation, which digital printing is perfect for. Such things as t-shirt printing are still mostly produced by screen printing. Both forms of printing are great at what they're designed for, depending on the customer's needs.
What do you do with your spare time?
I spend my weekends and annual leave walking in the lake district and riding my motorbike. I have been a bike enthusiast most of my life and have had a range of bikes, I currently have a Suzuki GS500 but my favourite bike of mine would have to be my Kawasaki Z900.
