Mimaki UJF-3042 MkII UV printer and CFL-605RT plotter: A match made in flatbed heaven.
If you visited our stand at Sign and Digital UK this year, you will have seen Your Print Specialists demonstrate the latest flatbed printer from Mimaki in the form of the UJF-3042 MkII and the flatbed plotter model CFL-605RT. You may have even taken away one of our print and cut sample boxes filled with sweets! The flatbed print and cut options from Mimaki make the perfect partnership when it comes to prototype packaging.
Mimaki UJF-3042 MkII LED UV Flatbed Printer
This printer is an update to the popular UJF-3042 range and replaces the existing HG model. The A3 bed size can allow objects up to 153mm depth to be printed. Using Adobe Illustrator we created artwork for the treat box, based on a traditional popcorn box and branded in the YPS colour scheme. Finecut software, which is supplied with the flatbed cutter, allows us to place registration marks on to the design. The design was printed onto 250gsm white card using the MkII and RIP software Rasterlink 6.
Mimaki CFL-605RT Flatbed Cutting Plotter
The entry level flatbed cutting plotter from Mimaki features a 610 x 510 mm cutting area and several tools for a range of cutting options. For our treat box, we used the creasing roller and eccentric cutter. There are also tangential and reciprocating cutter options for thicker boards and soft foam materials respectively. Using the Finecut plugin for illustrator, we can set the flatbed cutter to crease and then cut the card. Presets can be set up for those jobs that require the same material, which is great if you produce a lot of prototype packaging work. Our cut and crease lines are distinguishable by colour which allows for easy assignment when using Finecut. For our treat box sample, we used cyan for the crease tool and magenta to cut. The vacuum bed keeps in the card in place whilst the crease roller and cutter do their work. The result is a perfect net ready to construct and hold lots of treats.
