We installed the flagship Roland TrueVIS VG-640 as our demonstration model at our head office. This printer with integrated contour cutter features four print heads for maximum quality and efficiency. Let’s take a look at what other features makes this machine stand out from the other wide format solvent printers on the market.
First impressions…
The Roland TrueVIS VG-640 is a substantial machine but is incredibly streamline. The ink cartridges and control panel are hidden away to create a clean, industrial look. The print area and maintenance area of the machine is illuminated with LED lighting. This is a nice feature which will make you wonder how you ever printed without it!
Roland TrueVIS VG series Overview
The VG Series is an integrated print and cut solvent machine and is available in two widths 54” and 64” and is equipped with a take up system as standard for high production workflow. The VG Series has four print heads which fire precision droplets in three sizes for high quality prints. Contour cutting is possible with the new integrated carriage, holder and blade. This offers increased force and accuracy for a wider range of media. Perforated cut is also possible very easily using the Roland Swatch panel.
Versaworks Dual RIP software
Roland Versaworks Dual RIP software is included and is a simple to use but powerful RIP software. From installation, we had the VG printing samples almost immediately. The Versaworks software interface guides you through the available print and cut options and helps create an easy production workflow.
Roland DG Mobile Panel
The Roland DG mobile panel allows the user to have a full remote control panel using a smartphone or tablet using Bluetooth. You can receive status updates as well as remotely manage production, test printing, and cleaning functions. This is a really handy feature to have and definitely worth taking advantage of.
TrueVIS Eco-solvent Ink
The VG can be installed with a number of ink configurations; Dual CMYK, 7 colour CMYK plus Light Magenta, Light Cyan and Light Black or 8 colour, as previous but with the addition of White ink. Ink is supplied in 500cc pouches that conveniently slot into reusable holders therefore minimising waste. The Roland DG Mobile Panel mentioned previously can be used to monitor ink levels too.
TrueVIS Ink is a major step forward in eco-solvent technology and offer a wider colour gamut, richer solids and better gradations all while meeting strict environmental standards. The ink is Greenguard Gold certified, the highest standard available for indoor air quality.
We chose to have our machine supplied with white for use in window graphics and signage. We have printed a range of sample artworks across a range of media and the colours have been bright and vibrant across a variety of profiles and settings. There are profiles in Versaworks set up to help get you started including those for clear vinyls as well as other signage materials.
The Roland TrueVIS VG-640 creates vibrant and dynamic prints using RIP software that is both easy and enjoyable to use. We were impressed with how easy it was to get printing with Roland Versaworks with little experience of the software.
