Pantone Colour of the Year 2023...
December 1st saw the much anticipated announcement from Pantone for their Colour of the Year 2023, Viva Magenta 18-750. Moving away from the blue-purple that was the newly created Very Peri in 2022, Pantone have chosen a colour that is uninhibited, a little bit rebellious and out there. Viva Magenta definitely lives up to its name.
An unconventional shade for an unconventional time
Pantone Colour of the Year sets the tone for the year ahead and this year is no exception. Viva Magenta is powerful and empowering, full of optimism and joy.
“It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”
says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
When choosing the colour for 2023, The Pantone Color Institute observed a “heightened appreciation and awareness of nature represented by countless lifestyle trends. We’re incorporating more living things into our homes, such as plants, florals, living walls, and restorative outdoor spaces. We’re finding newfound enjoyment in travel, sports, and outdoor recreation after pausing these activities during the pandemic.”
Viva Magenta: Into the Magentaverse…
Pantone invite us to the #Magentaverse with an accompanying exhibition held at Artechouse in Miami Beach where the colour was unveiled. This immersive art exhibition allows the visitor to experience Viva Magenta in all of its glory on a massive scale. Other collaborations with Pantone include Motorola, with the launch of a Viva Magenta handset as well as skate shoe brand Coriuma with a 6 sneaker collection. 2023 will also see Pantone collaborate with Spoonflower who will use the Colour of the Year as the basis of design competitions held throughout the year.
Viva Magenta is a colour we can definitely get behind at Your Print Specialists. We can’t wait to see how this colour is embraced in graphic design, interiors, packaging and beyond.
