Your Print Specialists have been attending Sign & Digital UK for over 8 years, after the pause on live events due to COVID-19 we wouldn't miss the first SDUK in 3 years.
Held at Birmingham NEC in late March, YPS hosted two stands for the first time at this year's Sign & Digital UK. Both stand J16 and F64 ran for all 3 days and focused on different areas of digital print.
Stand J16
Our main stand focused on wide-format print technology with solvent and UV printers from Mimaki and RolandDG being featured. This stand could be found to the right as you entered the exhibition hall, located next to Hybrid Services.
We showcased the Mimaki UJV100-160 UV LED printer, Mimaki CJV150-75 solvent print and cut and Roland DG TrueVIS VG2-540 solvent print and cut.
Our Mimaki UJV100-160 printed wallpaper featuring designs from YPS Ambassador BOBO1325 with clear ink on Drytac’s ReTac Textures Linen finish vinyl. This is a self-adhesive textured wallpaper media available in a range of finishes including sand, canvas and woodgrain. The clear ink creates a gloss spot UV effect against the matte finish of the UV print resulting in a creative print that drew lots of attention to the stand. This printer was an ex-demonstration machine from the YPS Creative Centre and sold on the first day of Sign & Digital.
The Roland DG TrueVIS VG2-540 solvent printer with integrated cutter impressed SDUK visitors with its green and orange ink. Having orange and green ink installed opens up the colour gamut available when printing. Visitors to the stand could see BOBO1325 designs being printed on Drytac ReTac Smooth 150 vinyl as well as a range of designs and photos to really show the full capabilities of this printer and ink set.
Our third machine on stand J16, the Mimaki CJV150-75, showcased Mimaki solvent print and cut technology. Decals and full-colour prints showcased the wide colour gamut available with having orange ink installed. Part of the Mimaki CJV150 Series, this machine offers reliability with high quality in a compact package, perfect for those starting out in wide-format print.
“Meeting new customers and catching up with manufacturers was great for YPS. Sign & Digital UK 2022 has brought an influx of new customers to YPS from both stands and has opened the industry up again for face-to-face events. Our J16 stand features a range of technologies from both Mimaki and Roland.” - Georgia Brown, Managing Director, YPS
Stand F64
Our second stand F64 featured dye-sublimation technology from Epson and was part of the Sign & Digital UK Textile Tech Trail. The stand showcased the Epson SureColor SC-F100 A4 printer, SureColor SC-F500 610mm width & SureColor SC-F6300 1.1m width dye-sublimation printers.
This stand was dressed in printed items created using Epson’s dye-sublimation range, which featured BOBO1325’s custom design created for YPS for the show. Based on the Heritage of Print, this design formed a prominent part of both stands at Sign & Digital UK.
Stand F64 exhibited sublimation print from small giftware to large applications such as textiles, home furnishings and garment printing. Visitors to the stand were invited onto the stand to view the various applications for dye-sublimation print and discuss how sublimation printing can work for their business.
Our F64 stand also hinted at our new DTF printer. We featured samples and garment printing examples on our stand in Sign & Digital’s Textile Tech Trail.
“Our F64 Epson stand has given YPS a chance to showcase dye-sublimation and the opportunities it provides. Sign & Digital visitors have been drawn in by the range of applications we have featured printed from our Epson SureColor range, which showcase Beth at BOBO 1325’s design for YPS.” - Lauren Parker, Epson Development Manager, YPS
BOBO1325 x YPS Design
YPS are pleased to announce their continued partnership with YPI Ambassador Beth Travers of BOBO1325 with the creation of a design based on the theme of print heritage.
BOBO1325 won the FESPA 2020 Gold Award in the Printeriors category for her interior print design work with Leila Lily’s, Newcastle.
YPS has been working with BOBO1325 for a number of years, and are thrilled to collaborate with Beth.
“Background ghosted layers feature elements of printing presses and the eagle and dragon from the Columbian press along with the letters Y, P and S.
I have subtly used the colours to signify CMYK but so it's reflective of printing processes it's there but you won't know it. It's in the yellow sunflower, strokes on elements and the magenta in the backgrounds.
The cotton and silkworms represent fabrics and fibres.
I've tried to make it look like a liberty pattern but in my own way. The sunflowers and citrus represent dyes as is in the past and actually still now for the eco conscious. Citrus fruits, sunflowers were and are used and extracted for dyes. The willow leaves are for the colour mauve as that was discovered by the man who was studying aspirin and the litmus test.
The strawberries and acanthus leaves link to William Morris and his trailblazing ever so inspiring god like screen printing designs so I kind of gave a nod to his strawberry thief design for it.”
-Beth Travers, BOBO1325
